Arkansas State Championship Dulcimer Contest
Large Auditorium

Visitors can watch the excitement for free as the best dulcimer players compete for the state title.  This sanctioned contest will allow winners in each division (mountain and hammered) to earn a trip to the national finals at Walnut Valley in Winfield, KS. Cash prizes and hand crafted instruments are awarded to winners in each discipline. 

Specific Division Rules

 

Mountain Dulcimer: Saturday, preliminaries 3p.m.; finals 5:45 p.m. Contestants should be prepared to play four instrumental pieces: two in first round, two in second round. Contestant may not repeat during finals any selection from preliminaries. Contestants should be registered and present at contest stage by 3 p.m. Saturday, to draw for order of appearance and final instructions.

 

Hammered Dulcimer:

Saturday, preliminaries 1 p.m.; finals 5 p.m. Be prepared to play four instrumental pieces. Two tunes will be played in elimination round, and two in final round. The contestant may not repeat during the finals any selection played in preliminaries. Contestants must be registered and present at contest Stage by 1p.m. Saturday to draw for order of appearance and to receive final

instructions.

 

Dulcimer Ensemble:

Friday, 5 p.m. Contestants should be prepared to play three instrumental pieces. Groups may be composed of two or more members and may consist of Mountain Dulcimer and/or Hammered Dulcimer and other acoustic instruments. A dulcimer must be the lead instrument, although other instruments may play breaks. About three minutes playing time for each selection is suggested. Contestants must be registered and be present at contest stage to draw for order of appearance by 5 p.m. Friday. There is only one round in this division.

 

A contest entry fee of $10.00 is required for contest entry only if you do not enroll in the Dulcimer Jamboree workshops. Contestants must register in person, during the event. Mail or phone registration for contests cannot be processed.
