Sumptuous Herb Harvest Supper
October 5, 2017
Join us for a wonderfully educational meal while enjoying the foods and folkways.  The three main course entrees always include a vegetarian options. The reception is hosted by the Herb society of America's Ozark Unit members who also research and plan the meal.

Herb Harvest Festival
October 6-7, 2017
Nationally know and regional herbalists, local herbal merchants, and plantsmen will share their knowledge in this annual seminar.  This year's festival will focus on connecting herbs of the Central America and the West Indies to the Ozarks herb gardening and cultural traditions.  The full program will be announced by July 30, 2017.

Music Workshops 

Annual Dulcimer Jamboree
April 20-22, 2017
Three Days of workshops, jams and special concerts featuring some of the best instructors for both Mountain and Hammered Dulcimers in a round robin style format.  Students can take classes from all instructors at all levels of play. This is the only dulcimer workshop offered this year at the Ozark Folk Center State Park.

Arkansas State Championship Dulcimer Contest
April 22, 2017
Visitors can watch the excitement for free as the best dulcimer players compete for the state title.  This sanctioned contest will allow winners in each division (mountain and hammered) to earn a trip to the national finals at Walnut Valley in Winfield, KS.  Cash prizes and hand crafted instruments are awarded to winners in each discipline. 

Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas Workshop
May 13, 2017
Master Class for Ensemble Performing-An afternoon with master string musicians covering ensemble techniques for all level players. Class will also include discussion on the origins of traditional Scottish fiddle tunes and their migration to the United States. 

Thumbpicking Weekend Workshops
May 19-20, 2017
A gathering of guitarists dedicated to the tumb-picking tradition made popular by Merle Travis. Weekend events include a one day master class, panel discussions, concerts and contests.

Arkansas State Championship Thumbpicking Contest
May 20, 2017
Visitors will see the best compete in this free event held throughout the afternoon. Contest are held in two disciplines, traditional thumpicking and contemporary fingerstyle. Cash prizes are awarded for winners in each category and the contemporary fingerstyle champion wins admission to the national finals at Walnut Valley in Winfield, KS.

The annual Auto Harp Workshop features instruction for all levels of players with the nation's top players and teachers.  The event includes special performances from instructors and local performers who specialize in traditional playing styles.

String Band Weekend
June 23-24, 2017
Hone your skills as an ensemble performer in guitar, mandolin, fiddle and banjo.  Classes are focused on group playing and performing with guest instructors from across the country.

Old Time Fiddle Weekend
August 10-12, 2017
All fiddle all the time with a special emphasis on traditional old time Ozark style.  Nightly concerts and a one day master class featuring some of the premier players as well as a good ol' fashioned fiddle contest.

Events include a Thursday master class for all levels focusing on the traditional claw hammer style of playing made famous by Grandpa Jones and performances from the nation's top banjo players.

Sponsored by Old Time Ozark Traditions, this contest has divisions for all age groups with cash prizes for all winners in traditional claw hammer style banjo.

Folk Dance Days
September 8-9, 2017
This event features three days of workshops for people of all ages that focus on traditional dance styles such as clogging, jig, dancing, and contra dances.  Dance troupes, instructors, and bands converge on the Ozark Folk Center State Park for an intense weekend of fun.

Turn back the clock to a time when printing was produced using handset metal type and foot powered presses. In this three day class, you will learn the fundamentals of typesetting, composition lock up, press operation and bindery operations. Paul Pitt is offering a carving alabaster stone class. He has chosen the translucent carbonate of lime which is much softer than marble but finishes with comparable beauty.  Approximate hand-size sculptures will be completed.   All tools and materials provided.
