to be arranged between student and teachers Skip and Racheal Mathews

Class description:

These one day workshops are designed for either beginners or more advanced students.  They take place at various times of the year and are arranged between Racheal Mathews and you.  Call her at 417-527-8449 in the evenings to find what day will work for both of you.

You will be working with Skip and Racheal interchangeably during this workshop at their studio/shop in the Ozark Folk Center. If this workshop is for beginners, you will learn all the basic techniques and procedures for drawing shapes and patterns and then creating colors on those shapes with a torch.  You will also learn the best ways to seal and keep the colors. If this workshop is for more advanced students, you will be taken to the next level in this medium starting at the skill level you come to the class with.  We will problem solve with you and help you move in your own directions.

During this one day workshop, you will have time to get familiar with our torch and our solder and then complete 6 or 7 pieces. You will leave the course with what you need to set up your own home studio and a procedures manual and equipment list if you don’t already have these.  You will learn what you need in order to practice and build the skills to move towards the results you want in this wonderful medium.  Skip and Racheal will be happy to consult with students as they continue to learn the art of flame painting copper at home.

You must know how to solder with a torch, as you will be making your own pieces to flame paint.  Therefore, instructor approval is required, so call Racheal at 417-527-8449 or email her at coppercolorists@msn.com for approval.  Skip and Racheal also offer a one day soldering workshop as a one-on-one instruction which costs the same as the one day flame painting workshop and is to be arranged between Racheal and you. Call her in the evenings.

Tools to bring to the one day workshop – all the tools for this workshop are supplied by Skip and Racheal and all the materials are included in the cost of the workshop.  Although, if you have some pieces of your own that you want to bring to work on, that is encouraged.

Cost for workshop:
  • $20 registration fee is due to the Ozark Folk Center when you call to register.  We must have an emailed instructor approval before you can register.
