The Heritage Herb Gardens at the Ozark Folk Center grace the park with visual colors and textures, sweet and pungent aromas. With their natural display, they help us to interpret the history of the human use of plants.

The Heritage Herb Spring Extravaganza took place this last weekend. It was the very best spring herb event ever. Just ask anyone who came. The some of the highlights were great food, awesome music, engaging presentations, educational talks and an overwhelming sense of camaraderie.  The overall spirit of collaboration between the speakers, the Committee of 100, the Ozark Chapter of the Herb Society of America, the garden crew, the crafts people, the Cabins at Dry Creek, the Skillet Restaurant, the Music department and all attendees made it happen.

This week and next, join us for Garden Glory Days. Kathleen Connole and I will be conducting daily garden tours, Wednesday through Saturday. Meet us for herbal demonstrations at 3 P.M. at the Herb Shoppe. Fridays feature musical teas at three at the Dr. Bessie Moore Deck, next to the School House.

Now we are planning the Herb Harvest Fall Festival. Mark your calendar for October 1, 2 and 3 to experience the next best herb event to ever take place. Jim Long of Long Creek Herbs and Henry Flowers from Madalene Hill’s herb garden will be among the experts and friends. We are scheming an Herb Dinner of a completely different nature on Thursday night to kick it all off. I personally guarantee that you will be entertained and well-fed. We strive to interpret every aspect of herbalism, making it relevant to each participant, from beginner to well-seasoned herbalist. If I don’t see you in the future—I’ll see you in the pasture!
