Kids' Young Pioneers

To better serve young people who visit The Ozark Folk Center, we have designed a program especially suited to those between the ages of 7 and 14. It is our goal to show these students the life of a young pioneer by doing the things common to the folks of the Ozarks. The Young Pioneers will be able to start and finish projects, giving them a more complete understanding of Ozark lifestyles.

Some of the things that may be scheduled for these young folks will be participation in:

  • POTTERY
  • CORN SHUCKERY
  • SPINNING YARN
  • APPLEHEADS
  • OZARK GAMES
  • OZARK STORIES
  • SCENT SACKS
  • PLAY-PARTIES & SQUARE DANCE
  • FUN WITH PLANTS & FLOWERS
  • MAKING & USING QUILL PENS
  • PLAYING RHYTHM INSTRUMENTS
  • BATS AND SPIDERS (MAKE & TAKE HOME)

SCHEDULE:

April, May, September and October, the programs will be on Saturdays only.

June, July and August, programs will run 5-days-a-week, Wednesday through Saturday.

Hours are 11 am, 2 pm and 3:30 pm.

Sign-up will be 15 minutes prior to each program at the Young Pioneer Cabin (Shannon Cabin). Some events have a limited space, so we’ll operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
