Featured Callers & Teachers
Carol Ormand – Carol has been calling traditional contra and square dances since the spring of 1990, and has regularly called at dances, weekends, and festivals all over the United States and occasionally abroad. Since she moved to Madison, Wisconsin, in 2005, she’s also been playing fiddle for dances. Besides contra and square dancing, Carol enjoys dancing Morris, rapper sword, longsword, English country, and Scandinavian dances. For several years she was also a member of the Minnesota Wild Roses, a Modern Western Square Dance club.
Jeff Driggs – Jeff began clogging in 1980, where he danced to the live bluegrass music every weekend at the clogging halls around his home town. Jeff’s skill as a cuer and his humorous presentation style strikes a chord with the dancers, and keeps him busy doing workshops. In fact, Jeff’s teaching schedule has grown to include dozens of workshop appearances a year. He has taught throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia and has received numerous awards and honors.
Naomi Fleetwood-Pyle – Naomi is a Clogging Country/Western and Swing Dance instructor from Columbus, Indiana. She has been teaching clogging for 29 years. She teaches Appalachian clog dancing, line dancing, couple dancing, and swing. She travels nationally and internationally teaching dance workshops
Music by: The Avant Gardeners
The deep grooves of the band's mixture of traditional and composed tunes have contributed to the delirium of dancers at countless dances and concerts from coast to coast. Their range of performing styles including traditional swing, Celtic and old time and their facile improvisation on fiddle, piano, accordion, guitar, mandolin, and percussion has given this group their reputation as one of the premier contra and swing dance bands in the country.
