Kids' Young Pioneers

To better serve young people who visit The Ozark Folk Center State Park, we have designed a program especially suited to those between the ages of 7 and 14. It is our goal to show these students the pioneer lifestyle by doing the things common to the folks of the Ozarks. The Young Pioneers will be able to start and finish projects, giving them a more complete understanding of Ozark pioneer lifestyle.

Some of the pioneer activities that may be scheduled for these young folks will be:

  • POTTERY
  • CORN SHUCKERY
  • SPINNING YARN
  • APPLEHEADS
  • OZARK GAMES
  • OZARK STORIES
  • SCENT SACKS
  • PLAY-PARTIES & SQUARE DANCE
  • FUN WITH PLANTS & FLOWERS
  • MAKING & USING QUILL PENS
  • PLAYING RHYTHM INSTRUMENTS

SCHEDULE:

April, May, August, September and October, the programs will be on Saturdays only.

June and July programs will run 5-days-a-week, Tuesday through Saturday.

Hours are 11 am, 2 pm and 3:30 pm.

Sign-up for pioneer activities will be 15 minutes prior to each program at the Young Pioneer Cabin (Shannon Cabin). Some events have a limited space, so we’ll operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
